Importing AI-Generated GLB Assets into Unity: PBR, Colliders & Performance

Ai3DSculpt Engineering
The glTF 2.0 binary (.glb) format has become the universal standard for real-time 3D assets. Ai3DSculpt packs geometry, vertex colors, normal channels, and baked diffuse textures into a single self-contained binary file. Here is how to incorporate these assets directly into Unity.
1. Importing GLB via Unity glTFast
Unity natively supports glTF/GLB import via the official glTFast package:
- In Unity, open Window > Package Manager.
- Select Add package by name... and enter
com.unity.cloud.gltfast. - Once installed, simply drag your
.glbexported from Ai3DSculpt into the projectAssets/Modelsfolder. - Unity will automatically parse the embedded mesh hierarchy and textures.
2. Setting Up Materials in URP / HDRP
Ai3DSculpt models feature baked photorealistic textures:
- By default, glTFast maps embedded textures directly to Unity's Universal Render Pipeline (URP) Lit shader.
- If you wish to extract textures for custom shading, select the imported model, navigate to the Materials tab in the Inspector, and click Extract Textures.
- You can freely adjust the Smoothness slider (
0.2 - 0.4works well for matte materials) and apply normal intensity.
3. Physics & Colliders
For interactive game environments:
- Add a Mesh Collider component to the root child containing the mesh.
- For moving physics actors (rigidbodies), check Convex to allow dynamic physics simulation.
- For static level props, leave Convex unchecked and mark the GameObject as Static for precomputed lightmapping and occlusion culling.
With this pipeline, you can turn real-world objects into playable interactive video game props in under 5 minutes.
